Agroforestry Initiative through carbon finance to strengthen rural livelihoods and ecosystems in India

The project activity, an agroforestry project, aims to regenerate low-quality agricultural lands and generate livelihood opportunities within the geographical boundary of India through the plantation of trees of native species. The project promotes carbon sequestration, reduces pressure on natural forests, and benefits nearby communities. The project activity intends to increase the tree outside forest (TOF) areas which will help in carbon sequestration by trees and thereby mitigating climate change. The project will engage local communities, including small farmers, self-help groups (SHGs) and farmer produce organizations (FPOs) in the plantation efforts to not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also provide a sustainable source of income and livelihood for these marginalized sections.
